TOUR OF NORFOLK ISLAND INCLUDING KINGSTON AND ARTHUR’S VALE WORLD HERITAGE AREA (KAVHA)
Extend your ICOMOS experience by visiting Norfolk Island after the General Assembly. On this 5 day/4 night tour you will visit a World Heritage listed site; the most westerly point of Polynesian migration; a place of dread for convicts; and home for the descendants of the mutiny on the Bounty. History, heritage, culture and a beautiful holiday location await.
Choose from budget style to well-appointed accommodation. With no public transport and hilly terrain, a car is necessary and is included package prices. With everything five minutes away you won’t get lost on this little 5 kilometre x 8 kilometre island and a map with all venue locations will be provided.

Please make your own way to Sydney International Airport and check in for your flight to Norfolk. Note that flight departure times are indicative only.
0950hrs | Flight NZ762 departs Sydney International Airport. |
1325hrs | Upon arrival at Norfolk Island Airport, you will be met and transferred to your accommodation and collect your hire car. Self-explore your surrounds and visit the local supermarket for any supplies you require. |
1700hrs | Self-drive to No.9 Quality Row in World Heritage listed KAVHA for the Official Welcome with a complimentary glass of champagne or juice and appertisers. Consider car-pooling with others staying at the same accommodation. |
1800hrs | A quick five minutes-drive will take you to Paradise Hotel where you’ll enjoy a two-course dinner, completing your welcome to Norfolk Island and this special ICOMOS. Drinks at own expense. |

0845hrs | Time to drive yourself to the Royal Engineers Office (R.E.O.) in KAVHA to join your morning tour |
0900hrs | Walking Tour of Kingston: departs from the R.E.O. adjacent to Kingston Pier. With flat terrain and a number of stops including morning tea at No. 9 Quality Row, this tour requires minimal fitness, but the ability to walk on some uneven ground. Passing an incredible array of over 40 Georgian buildings dating from 1825 to 1855 over 3 hours you’ll cover the major stories and Settlements of Norfolk Island. Includes visits to No. 10 Quality Row House Museum, home to the Superintendent of Works from 1844; and Pier Store Museum with key stories and artefacts from the Mutiny on the Bounty, Pitcairn and Norfolk Islands |
1200hrs | Tour concludes. Time at leisure to purchase lunch (own expense) from a range of cafes in the main shopping area of Burnt Pine (five-minute drive) |
11300hrs | Meet at the Pinetrees Tours departure point in Burnt Pine to join a half-day Island tour. This bus tour covers most areas of the island |
11630hrs | With your tour complete, either return to your hotel to relax or self-explore more of the Island. Dinner own arrangements |

0845hrs | Time to drive yourself to the Golf Club in KAVHA to join your morning tour |
0900hrs | Polynesian Settlement Tour: Discover the story of the most westerly point of Polynesian settlement including archaeological digs and artefact finds. The tour starts with a presentation at the Golf Club, a short five minute walk across the golf to the archaeological site followed by a visit to the Commissariat Store museum to view the artefact collection. Morning tea will be served at the Golf Club |
1100hrs | Tour concludes. Time at leisure to purchase lunch (own expense) from the Golf Club or travel to Burnt Pine cafes |
1300hrs | HMS Sirius and First Settlement Tour: Meet at the HMS Sirius Museum in Kingston for a dedicated tour of the museum, First Fleet and First Settlement stories. Wrecked on the reef at Norfolk in 1790, HMS Sirius was the flagship of the First Fleet making this arguably Australia’s most important shipwreck collection |
1500hrs | With your tour complete, either return to your hotel to relax or self-explore more of the Island. Dinner own arrangements |

1245hrs | Time to make your way to the Pinetrees Tours departure point to join this afternoon’s Island Culture Tour. From our mutineer ancestors and their Tahitian wives came the arts of wood craft, weaving, cooking and our Norfolk Language. On this tour learn about the Norf’k culture and unique environment; see a woodturning demonstration using Norfolk timber, visit Island homes and learn about our cooking |

0900hrs | The Norfolk Island Cemetery is the resting place for Australian First Fleet settlers, convicts, officers, soldiers and marines, together with the first and subsequent generations of the descendants of the Pitcairn Islanders. Spanning over 200 years it is one of the most important and unique cemeteries in Australasia |

With your tour complete you can use your Norfolk Island Museum pass to go back to any of the museum venues; join other island tours, grab a snorkel and enjoy the spectacular rare fringing reef at the KAVHA World Heritage site; or enjoy a leisurely lunch and afternoon. |

Fitness level: Gentle / Moderate. As a large heritage site, a moderate level of fitness is recommended. Many buildings do not have full disability access, however, much of the site’s built convict heritage is on relatively flat ground.
